Ipswich winger Luciano Civelli is on course for a New Year return after coming through his first three months of rehabilitation.

The Argentinian has made steady progress in his recovery from a knee ligament injury sustained against Burnley in March.

But, although he is getting stronger by the day, Town physio Matt Byard does not expect him to be back in first-team contention until January.

Byard told the club's official website: "The first 12 weeks following surgery of the sort that Luca's had is often very slow and a frustrating time but he has dealt with it well and reached all the short-term goals set out for him.

"The muscles are strengthening around the knee joint and the specialist is delighted with the progress he has made.

"There is a long journey ahead yet from what is obviously a complex injury but his recovery is very encouraging."
