Defender move collapse explained

RangersDanny Shittu has signed for Bolton after a move to Rangers collapsed, but reports he was asking for too much cash have been blasted.

The Gers appeared to be closing in on a swoop for the player but his move from Watford fell through and Bolton nipped in to land him in a deal worth £2million.

There had been suggestions that Shittu's wage demands had caused the deal to collapse, but a source close to the player says that is not the case.

"Danny left messages with Walter Smith himself to explain there must have been a misunderstanding when he went up to Rangers," the source revealed.

"But Walter didn't call him back at all. Danny was unhappy and very, very disappointed about that. It was the most upsetting thing for him, as he wanted to put the record straight.

"Danny was so looking forward to Rangers but what they did wasn't fair. He wasn't being greedy."
