Ferguson closes on return

RangersBarry Ferguson is closing in on a return to the Rangers first-team and could be back for the game against Hamilton on October 25.

The Gers skipper is set to play for the second string against St Mirren next Tuesday and as long as he comes through unscathed and does not suffer any reaction, he should return against the Accies.

"Ferguson is getting close now," boss Walter Smith told the club's website. "He will have a full week's training and all going well he will play in a reserve game on Tuesday.

"The physios are working very hard with him and they have been stepping up his training and I hope that next week will be the start of the comeback for him."
