Rangers midfielder Dean Furman has departed Ibrox after agreeing a three-year deal with English League One outfit Oldham Athletic.

The 21-year-old South African looked like joining Bradford City following a successful season-long loan stint last term. However, Latics boss Dave Penney has won the race for Furman and the former Chelsea youth player will be plying his trade at Boundary Park until 2012.

"You can't argue with Dean's pedigree," Penney told the club's official website.

"Chelsea - Rangers, while also being on the brink of breaking into the South Africa team.

"He did very well with Bradford and I'm confident he will continue his progress at the higher level."
