Gers reveal deal hopes

RangersRangers hope to agree personal terms and sign Fulham midfielder Steven Davis within the next couple of days after agreeing a fee.

The Northern Ireland international spent the second half of last season on loan at Ibrox and played a key role in their progression to the Uefa Cup final.

But a summer of wrangling over the former Aston Villa youngster's valuation saw a full-time move fail to materialise before the start of the SPL season.

However, Gers boss Walter Smith is hopeful the deal will go through before his side are next in action.

He said: "We have reached agreement with Fulham and we still have one or two things to settle with the player and his representatives but we are hopeful that one will go through. That should happen in the next couple of days."

He added: "It's a transfer that has been really ongoing so we don't want to count our chickens.

"But we have agreed with the club now, which is a big thing, and we would hope we can reach agreement with Steven's people over the next couple of days."
