Rangers postpone Bluebirds raid

RangersRangers boss Walter Smith is reportedly set to postpone his efforts to sign Cardiff defender Glenn Loovens until the January window.

The Gers chief has been trying to sign the highly-rated Dutch defender from the Bluebirds for most of the pre-season, but City are not willing to let such an influential player depart for the £1.5million offered.

Smith had also offered Kris Boyd and then Daniel Cousin in exchange, but Cardiff boss Dave Jones is not thought to be keen on that as he looks for £3million.

As a result Loovens looks like staying at Ninian Park and is due to line up against Ajax in Friday's friendly home encounter ahead of next week's Championship curtain-raiser with Southampton.

Rangers have since signed Charlton's Algerian centre-half Majid Bougherra on Thursday for £2.5million, but it is claimed Smith will make a renewed effort to sign Loovens or at least secure him on a pre-contract agreement in January's transfer window as he is entering the final year of his City deal.
