Smith to move for defender

RangersRangers boss Walter Smith looks set to make a straight cash offer of around £2.5m for the services of Cardiff's Glenn Loovens.

The defender is Smith's top target after selling Carlos Cuellar to Aston Villa and money will be no problem after they received almost £8m for Cuellar.

City chairman Peter Ridsdale insists the Bluebirds value Loovens at £3m-plus and they will not be interested in any amount less than that but with just one year to go on his current deal and no prospect of hims signing a new one a deal could be in the pipeline.
