Striker offer on table

RangersRangers have stepped up their bid to sign Cardiff City star Glenn Loovens - offering striker Daniel Cousin in part-exchange.

Ibrox boss Walter Smith is willing to lose the Gabon international striker to force through a deal for Loovens because he is desperate to land his top target.

Rangers are facing an injury crisis after losing two central defenders ahead of their vital Champions League qualifying second leg against Kaunas in Lithuania next week.

Carlos Cuellar is injured and, although David Weir can play in Europe, he is short of cover at the back.

The Bluebirds want a straight £3million for Loovens, who has one year left on his contract and is refusing to sign a new deal.

Scottish international hitman Kris Boyd is a player who does interest Dave Jones if he were to settle for a part-exchange deal, but City are said to be 'lukewarm' about the proposed bid which includes 31-year-old Cousin.
