Reading's new boss Brian McDermott has spoken of his delight at being named the new manager of the club.
The former chief scout has been in charge on a caretaker basis since the departure of Brendan Rodgers at the club but now he has been named the new full-time boss and he could not be happier.
He told the club's website: "I am absolutely delighted, it's a really big day for me and I'm very happy to be the manager.
"Obviously it's been going on for a while and I think the Chairman really wanted to feel that it was the right choice, and for that I'm grateful. I'm looking forward to the next 20 games in the league and also as many cup games as we can get in.
"I've been here ten years, it's a long time and I think I've played all the roles at the football club, and to be appointed manager of a team like this is terrific and I can't wait to get going. For me the season starts today.
"First of all we've got a big, big game against Barnsley and we have to attack it. We have to attack every game that we're playing, it's going to be a real big day at Madejski. I've had five games in charge, four have been away from home and I'm just looking forward to getting home.
"We played Sheffield United the other night, we had opportunities and didn't take them and they took theirs. We have to be ruthless, in both boxes, in both penalty areas we have to do the right things and if we do that, we have a good shape about us and we'll be climbing up this league."
