Reading will be without Alex McCarthy against Manchester United and for the rest of season as he requires shoulder surgery.
The Royals goalkeeper picked up the injury at the start of the month after he collided with a goalpost and has now been told he needs surgery to help fix the problem.
The 22-year-old broke the news on Twitter when revealing: "On route back home from London, was expecting the outcome with the specialist. Surgery on Monday. My season over!"
It means Adam Federici will now continue between the sticks as the Royals number one, with Stuart Taylor and Mikkel Anderson acting as cover.
Elsewhere, Jimmy Kebe is still struggling with a groin injury and can only expect a place on the bench at best if he recovers in time, while midfielders Danny Guthrie and Jem Karacan also remain in the treatment room at the Madejski Stadium.
