Under-fire Reading boss Brian McDermott has demanded a huge improvement when the Royals take on Sunderland on Tuesday night.
Reading remain rooted in the relegation zone following the defeat at Southampton on Saturday and there have been suggestions McDermott could face the axe if things do not improve quickly.
That would seem harsh after the wonders he worked in getting the club promoted, but after a poor display at St Mary's McDermott is well aware that performances have to improve.
The Royals have an immediate chance to bounce back against fellow strugglers Sunderland tomorrow night and he is demanding a much better performance.
"We have to be better than that, we need to combine a performance in all areas, everything needs to come together," he revealed. "It was the poorest we've played for a while. We've got a game on Tuesday to pick ourselves up. Second half I thought we'd really step on but we didn't do that in the way I wanted.
"Anyone who's seen us over a long period of time will know we've always reacted well in games. Normally we throw the kitchen sink at them but we didn't today. So we're obviously disappointed, we all are after a game like that. We know the League we're in, we've got to keep our heads down, dig in and get on with it."
