Rivals reveal interest in Royals ace

ReadingCharlton have confirmed that they would like to sign Reading defender Sam Sodje, but the player has had to undergo an operation.

Addicks boss Alan Pardew is considering a move for the Royals defender, but admits that Charlton will probably have to sell some players before they sign further new players this month.

Pardew said: "Sodje is a player I've kept in contact with but I don't think Reading have made a decision on that. But Sam is on our radar and that's all I can say for now."

Another problem though for Charlton is that the centre back has been forced to undergo a knee operation, which will keep him on the sidelines for around three or four weeks.

Steve Coppell has confirmed there has been interest in Sodje, but that the surgery could delay a decision over his future.
