Reading director of football Nick Hammond has rubbished reports owner Anton Zingarevich picks which players the Royals buy.
Rumours regarding the influence of the Russian billionaire have been rife since the Premier League strugglers signed Pavel Pogrebnyak last summer.
Speculation regarding Zingarevich has since increased after Reading were linked with a move for another Russian, Arsenal forward Andrey Arshavin.
Hammond has now come out and denied talk of the owner having an influence on transfers, insisting the players who are signed by Reading are chosen by the manager.
Hammond told the Reading Evening Post: "I've worked with Anton for 12 months now, it's been a good relationship, and he has a vast knowledge of football.
"I talk much more about the game than I ever did with (chairman) Sir John Madejski.
"But the support is there. The decision lies with the manager.
"This football club has only ever brought players to the club."
