Adam Le Fondre insists Reading can take heart from their defeat against Manchester United and remains confident of survival.

The Royals gave Sir Alex Ferguson's title chasers a real scare at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday but suffered a 4-3 defeat, despite twice taking the lead.

Striker Le Fondre, however, believes his side have shown they can compete with the best sides in the division and remains optimistic Reading can avoid Premier League relegation.

Reading travel to Southampton on Saturday and the forward feels they can take all three points at St Mary's if they can replicate the kind of display they produced against United.

"I think we can take heart from the performance and take it into the coming games," Le Fondre told the club's official website.

"Every game is important in this league and every game is a tough test. But if we play against Southampton like we did on Saturday then we'll be okay."

Punters may wish to use their free bet to back the Royals to pick up their first away win of the campaign at Southampton on Saturday after their encouraging performance against Manchester United last time out.
