Reading owner Anton Zingarevich says talks are ongoing with Alex Pearce and is confident the defender will pen a new deal.

Pearce has impressed for the Royals in the Premier League this season and boss Brian McDermott is keen to get him tied down to a new contract as the vultures start to circulate.

Zingarevich also wants the Academy graduate tied down and says the player has given his word that he will commit his future at some point.

"We are trying to get it done and he is playing all the time," the Russian told the Reading Evening Post. "Mostly it is up to him, but he has promised me he will sign, so we will see.

"He's come through our Academy. That's the spirit of the club. You can buy all the players from around the world, but it's really important to have players like Alex and keep them as a big part of this club."
