Royals linked to French frontman

Reading are one of five Premier League clubs with an interest in Lorient's ex-Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere in January.

QPR, Newcastle, West Ham and Everton are among a clutch of clubs who have been alerted to the 29-year-old's return to form in France, where he has fired seven Ligue 1 goals in 17 appearnces this season.

Aliadiere is midway through a three-year contract in northern France after his ex-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who signed him aged 16, helped him get a move to the top-flight following a year in the wilderness.

The former Clairefontaine academy graduate has shown that he still has plenty of pace and finishing power and scored one of the goals of the season in France on the opening day of the season against Paris St Germain.

Royals boss Brian McDermott has shown some initial interest but it is thought that Aliadiere's agent is the driving force behind the rumours of the five clubs being linked to him.
