Royals step up boss search

Nigel Adkins remains favourite to take the Reading job as Royals owner Anton Zingerevich steps up his search for a new boss.

The Russian is due to fly into England in the coming days to begin interviews over the vacant post and reports claim an appointment could be made before the weekend.

Adkins, who was ousted by Southampton earlier in the season, remains the bookmakers' favourite for the job, while ex-Royals favourite and Bradford boss Phil Parkinson is on the list of possibles along with former Barcelona and Real Madrid defender Luis Enrique.

One name that appears to be out of the frame is Paolo Di Canio, who was the early favourite, but Zingerevich is looking elsewhere and the Italian has now drifted in the betting.

Eamonn Dolan is still in with a shout and if the new man is not on board by the weekend, he will be by the time Reading return to action against Arsenal.
