Rotherham manager Steve Evans insists there was no fall-out with departed striker Daniel Nardiello.

The 31-year-old, who has scored five goals this season, has surprisingly been allowed to join League Two Bury on loan until January, when the move is expected to become permanent.

Although Nardiello has been on the bench in recent weeks, the move still comes as a surprise owing to his return of 24 goals in 50 games for the club.

But Evans is looking to strengthen his squad and does not see a place for the former Manchester United trainee.

"I'm paid to make tough decisions, we are looking at the future and Daniel has not been in the team and that allowed us to accept the request from the manager of Bury," Evans told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"I have never had a bad word with Daniel Nardiello in all my time other than when I have not been happy with his performance or training, which was in the main last season.

"His life has changed a little bit recently. He has got a young baby and at Bury it gives him the opportunity to get a contract beyond the summer and the chance to go and play on a very regular basis.

"We have not had any bad words, I have done nothing but praise the kid when it has been right to do so and he goes with our best wishes. Daniel has maginificent in taking us to where we want to be."

Evans confirmed he expects the move to become permanent in January and had no qualms in making a potentially unpopular decision.

"I would be surprised if he comes back and plays at Rotherham," he added. "He has got agreements in place with Bury, we have allowed him to move on.

"From his point of view it is a good move, he wants to play football on a regular basis. It was a tough decision, but I am paid by the chairman to make them.

"Let's just wait and see what develops out of Daniel moving on, there will be developments and they will be positive."
