Pringle: Millers can make play-offs

Rotherham midfielder Ben Pringle believes his side are capable of making the play-offs this season.

The Millers moved back into the top six of League One after thumping Gillingam 4-1 at New York last Saturday with a performance that left the critics purring.

Having brought in two Premier League players on loan from Newcastle last week and then fought off interest in manager Steve Evans from Sheffield Wednesday this week, there is a positive vibe around the South Yorkshire club.

And Pringle buys into that and fancies a top-six finish.

"No one is going to catch the top two, I think they are gone," he said.

"I can't see us ending up near the bottom of the table, so where we are now is a realistic shout to try and get in the play-offs and if we can try and keep hold of these loan signings for a little bit longer then I can't see why we can't do that.

"We just have to keep going and the days that it doesn't happen we just have to keep believing in what we are doing and hopefully we will be okay."

The manner of the performance against the Gills, where the Millers surged into a 3-0 half-time lead, has increased expectations at the South Yorkshire club.

But Pringle has warned fans not to expect that every week.

"Anyone can see that it was probably one of the best performances we have had since I have been here," he added.

"Some people have been saying it has been the best Rotherham performance they have seen in their lifetime so that tells you how good a game it was for everyone involved.

"It was nice to get the goals early. It has been a frustrating couple of weeks at home and the fans have been getting annoyed when we haven't scored, so to be 3-0 up at half-time was good.

"The way we played against Gillingham, if we play like that then we will have no problems at all.

"Shutting up shop is not hard for teams to do, they just camp in their half and say 'break us down' and you see it week in week out in the Premier League and Champions League that when teams are chasing points the other one will just sit there.

"The best players in the world can break them down, but we're in League One. So sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

"Everyone is going to expect us to play like that every week, but it's just not going to happen."
