Tony Smith has welcomed long-serving stand-off Lee Briers' decision to commit to Warrington until the end of the 2010 season.
Reports had suggested 31-year-old Wales international and fans' favourite Briers, a target for Widnes, would be a high-profile casualty of a squad overhaul by Smith.
However, England coach Smith said he was delighted Briers had agreed to stay with the Wolves for a 14th season and hoped their understanding would blossom.
"Lee is one of the brightest talents in the game and I look forward to continuing to work with him," said Smith.
"Lee and I have a good working relationship and we understand what we require from one another," he added. "We work happily together and have formed a good partnership so far."
New Zealand international Vinnie Anderson and youngster Mike Cooper have also signed new one-year deals.
