Wigan have been boosted by the news centre George Carmont has signed a new one-year contract with an option of a further 12 months.
The 31-year-old Samoan international was due to fall out of contract at the DW Stadium next month and was looking for a new two-year deal offer. However, following lengthy negotiations, Carmont has accepted a one-year deal and will get the chance to stay on until 2011 if he makes a set number of appearances for the Warriors next season in Super League.
Wigan chairman Ian Lenagan said: "The deal is good for both parties as it can give George a second year based on sufficient appearances next season but ensures opportunity for our young developing players at the club to make their mark if fitness prevents George playing to the right extent or level next year."
Carmont, who has missed only four games out of a possible 67 since joining Wigan from Newcastle Knights in 2007, was happy with the compromise.
"Staying at Wigan was the best decision for myself and my family," he said. "There is a good feeling and a good bond amongst the boys which I wanted to continue to be a part of.
"I am also excited about working under the new coaching staff of Michael Maguire and Shaun Wane."
