Paul Deacon has realised a childhood dream by leaving Bradford Bulls to join his home town club Wigan on a three-year contract.

The former Great Britain scrum-half has joined Warriors as an assistant to new first-team coach Michael Maguire but will be available to play in 2010.

Super League rivals Bradford made the decision to release the 30-year-old - who had 12 months left on his contract at Odsal - following their capture of Australian half-back Matt Orford from Manly.

"I hope to help Wigan win some silverware before I hang up the boots," Deacon said.

He added: "I have always harboured a desire to play for my home town team.

"To work alongside Michael (Maguire) and Shaun (Wane) really excites me and I can't wait to get started."
