Better than last time - O'Connell

R UnionMunster's Alan Quinlan said the side had to dig deep in order to defeat Toulouse in the Heineken Cup final on Saturday.

Munster secured the trophy for the second time in their history after a ferociously committed display saw them manage to overcome an equally spirited Toulouse side in Cardiff.

Denis Leamy's try and a Ronan O'Gara conversion and penalty gave Munster a 10-3 lead in the opening 35 minutes while a Jean-Baptiste Elissalde penalty made it 10-6 at the break before O'Gara extended Munster's lead.

Toulouse fought back to level through a Yves Donguy try but a third successful penalty from O'Gara clinched the trophy for Munster.

"Toulouse had us on the rack for the first 15 minutes and we had to hold on to avoid conceding more scores," said man-of-the-match Quinlan. "The amount of work which has gone into this has been immsense and I count myself lucky to be a part of this team.

"We had great support from people who believed in us."

Meanwhile, Munster captain Paul O'Connell was delighted at getting his hands on the coveted trophy once more, saying: "I think it is more satisfying than last time.

"We have an incredible bunch of people and you feel a pressure when you wear the jersey which is so special to all of us.

"It was tough campaign and it is just incredible. We have shown bottle and courage and great mental strength today."
