Boks ace banned

R UnionSouth Africa hooker Bismarck du Plessis has been handed a three-week ban following a disciplinary hearing in Dunedin.

The 24-year-old had been cited following Saturday's dramatic 30-28 Tri-Nations victory against New Zealand at Carisbrook.

The SANZAR judicial hearing looked at the evidence he had come into "contact with the eyes or eye area" of All Blacks flanker Adam Thomson and decided there was a case to answer.

They deemed a three-week suspension was the correct punishment for his actions and the ban will take him up to and including August 3.

That means the hooker will miss next weekend's Tri-Nations clash against Australia in Perth but he will be available to return for the Test with Argentina in Johannesburg on August 9.
