Howlett hails Munster fans

R UnionDoug Howlett admitted he had been blown away by the Munster fans after helping the Irish side beat Toulouse to lift the Heineken Cup.

Munster secured a 16-13 victory over the French giants at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on Saturday thanks to a try from Denis Leamy and the boot of Ronan O'Gara.

The Irish outfit had the support of 60,000 fans in the Welsh capital and Howlett admitted that he had not been prepared for such a vociferous following after signing for Munster at the start of the year.

"I have played Test matches at the Millennium Stadium with the All Blacks but we don't quite get the same reception," he said. "This was a fantastic event. This is why I came up here, for these experiences."

And the New Zealander admitted that there is something of a mystical quality about playing for such a well-supported club.

"It is hard to put your finger on what Munster is," he added. "But going out there and seeing thousands of supporters and having 65,000 stay behind after the game to celebrate - it is something special in world rugby."
