Mallinder signs new Saints deal

R UnionJim Mallinder has ended talk of a move to the England set-up by signing a new deal with Northampton Saints.

Mallinder moved to Franklin's Gardens last summer, after spells with Sale Sharks, England Under 21s and England Saxons, and led the Saints straight back into the top-flight with a 100% win record in National One division.

Northampton also went on to win the EDF National Trophy to complete a league and cup double.

Mallinder admits that the club is facing a tough period but says he is relishing the challenge.

"I've enjoyed my return to a club environment immensely and am settled at Franklin's Gardens. We had success last season but the hard work starts here," he said.

"It's going to be a long journey with plenty of challenges in the toughest league in the world. Nevertheless it is something that I am looking forward to along with everyone at the club."

The new deal has ended speculation that he could be lured into the national coaching set-up under new chief Martin Johnson.
