Iron waiting on trio

Last Updated: Fri, 08 Nov 2013 09:04

Scunthorpe trio Matt Sparrow, Deon Burton and Niall Canavan are all hoping to overcome injuries in time to face Grimsby in the FA Cup.

Midfielder Sparrow (hamstring), defender Canavan (ankle) and striker Burton (back) all missed last week's draw at Chesterfield, but returned to training this week and are expected to be in contention.

Striker Chris Iwelumo stepped off the bench late on last Saturday following an ankle injury and hopes to play a bigger part, but midfielder Michael Collins (knee), defender Eddie Nolan (hamstring) and winger Andy Welsh (knee) remain sidelined.

Midfielder David Syers is hoping to have permission from Doncaster to appear in the first-round tie after extending his loan spell by another month this week.
