Sheffield United's npower League One encounter against Brentford at Bramall Lane has been postponed due to heavy overnight snow.
More than six inches fell in the area and, after consulting South Yorkshire Police, the decision was made to call the game off on safety grounds.
Blades operations director Dave McCarthy told www.sufc.co.uk: "It is such a disappointment we've not quite made it despite everyone's best efforts.
"But those in and around Sheffield will appreciate just how much snow has fallen in such a short space of time. Although we were all looking forward to this big game, we have to respect the decision of the authorities and the safety of supporters and everyone involved remains paramount.
"Referee Keith Stroud has been fully involved with the decision, although he was unable to make the scheduled 8.30am pitch inspection due to him being snowed in at his hotel on the outskirts of the city."
No new date has yet been arranged.
