Kevin Blackwell is looking for new players once the loan window reopens in order to avoid a defensive crisis at Sheffield United.

The Blades are currently without captain Chris Morgan, who is expected to be out for around three weeks with a muscle tear, while right-back Kyle Naughton has returned to Tottenham Hotpsur.

Add this to the departure of Matthew Kilgallon to Sunderland, and United are without three quarters of the back four that saw the club's surge into the play-offs last season.

Blackwell has already secured temporary deals for Nyron Nosworthy and Toni Kallio but is still short of defensive options ahead of Tuesday's clash at Preston.

Blackwell told the club's website: "Ideally we need someone who is experienced, can handle the pressures that come with representing a club like ours and who is playing regularly.

"But if someone is going to be let out on loan it means they're unlikely to be playing regularly. So it could be a case of doing the best we can and trying to get someone here who has played a fair bit rather than not at all."
