Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell is unlikely to offer Billy Sharp a lifeline despite problems up front for the season opener.

The Blades travel to Middlesbrough on Friday night for the first game of the campaign but they will be without strikers Darius Henderson and Ched Evans because of thigh and back problems respectively.

Jamie Ward also starts a two-game ban to leave Blackwell with selection problems but he will not turn to transfer-listed Doncaster target Sharp.

Blackwell told the Yorkshire Post: "If a deal comes in that is right for Billy and right for the club, we won't stand in his way."

Forwards Danny Webber, Arturo Lupoli and Craig Beattie all left Bramall Lane over the summer.

Doncaster raised cash from the sale of star defender Matt Mills to Reading on Wednesday.
