Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell has nipped in and signed Sunderland's Nyron Nosworthy from under the noses of Portsmouth.

The former Gillingham defender was expected to go to Fratton Park on loan but the two sides failed to agree a financial package and he has now opted to move to Bramall Lane.

Blackwell will be delighted to land his man and he will come in as a straight replacement for Mathew Kilgallon who has gone to the Stadium of light on a permanent basis, despite having said that he would stay at the Blades until the summer.

Nosworthy attracted interest from a number of clubs and Pompey were favourites but Blackwell has nipped in and beaten them all to the punch.
