Roger Johnson is hoping to overcome an arm injury in time to make his debut for Sheffield Wednesday at former club Birmingham.
The former Wycombe, Cardiff and Birmingham defender, who joined from Wolves on a three-month loan deal last week, fell awkwardly in training on Thursday and will be assessed, but is expected to be in contention.
Captain Anthony Gardner remains sidelined with a long-term Achilles injury, but fellow defender Lewis Buxton could return to the starting line-up after recovering from a hamstring strain.
Manager Dave Jones, whose side are chasing their first win of the season, has no other injury concerns, while wingers Jermaine Johnson and Jacques Maghoma, plus midfielder Jose Semedo, are all pushing for recalls.
