Laws in no rush for loan raids

Brian Laws has insisted he will not be rushed in his efforts to sign a loan striker for Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

The Owls boss did make a bid to sign West Ham hitman Freddie Sears, but missed out when the youngster decided to stay in London by joining Crystal Palace on a season-long loan deal. And it seems Laws is not going to rush into finding an alternative as he waits to see which players will be made available by Premier League clubs later in the transfer window, while he wants to assess his current striker quartet of Akpo Sodje, Francis Jeffers, Leon Clarke and Marcus Tudgay.

He told the Sheffield Star: "We moved for Sears because West Ham were willing to do an early deal; otherwise we wouldn't have tried to bring someone in so quickly.

"But a lot of Premier League clubs we have spoken to are not letting players go out until late July; they report back later than us, so that's the sort of timescale if we do need to take that route.

"While the loan market could be useful, first I want to look at the four strikers we've got and see how they are getting on."
