Brian Laws wants players with a strong character in the Owls' home game against Reading and could therefore recall Darren Purse.
The Wednesday boss is under pressure following the shocking 4-0 reverse at Hillsborough at the hands of West Brom last weekend and has called on a big performance from his players against the Royals on Saturday.
Club captain Purse has not featured since making mistakes in the 4-1 defeat at Watford on October 23 but he has now recovered from a virus and Laws admits he is the sort of player he needs in his side this weekend.
"It will take a strong mental attitude, a calm head and the ability to take the criticism," the Owls boss said in the Sheffield Telegraph.
"Our fans are a major player in this one and I'm sure Reading will try to use our supporters against us.
"Darren Purse wasn't in the squad last week because he hasn't been playing after getting injured and picking up a virus. But I've got to look at players who can cope with the pressure.
"That's the experienced ones and he can come into our thoughts."
