Laws says no to Halls

Sheff WedSheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws has turned down the opportunity to sign former Reading defender John Halls.

The ex-Arsenal youth graduate failed to impress on a week's trial at the club despite looking certain for a deal after injuries to key defenders Frank Simek and Richard Hinds.

Halls played the full 90 minutes as Wednesday's reserve team which crushed Shrewsbury's reserves 6-2 .

The Owls boss watched the clash to look over the defender, but decided against giving him a deal and will look elsewhere to strengthen his backline.

In the same game Tony McMahon impressed at right-back after signing on a month's loan deal from Middlesbrough and Laws could well look to extend it beyond a month should Simek and Hinds fail to return from injury in time.
