Owls takeover not a done deal

Sheff WedSheffield Wednesday's potential new owner Geoff Sheard has played down talks that he is on the verge of taking over the club.

Sheard's consortium needs a 30 per cent stake in the club to effectively take control with former chairman and owner Dave Allen already agreeing to sell the his 10% stake.

The supporters group Wednesdayite have also urged members to vote in favour of selling their shares with the outcome of a ballot to be announced on August 6.

Sportswear tycoon Sheard meet with Owls directors Geoff Hulley and former director Keith Addy, with reports suggesting that they had agreed to sell their 10 per cent stakes.

Sheard remains confident a deal could be done but suggested that the idea of the takeover being imminent was premature.

"I don't know where that information has come from and it's certainly premature to say that.

"However, we did have a meeting which went well and I'm confident that everything is progressing well."
