Southampton boss Nigel Adkins is keeping his feet on the ground despite hitting top spot again at the weekend.
Saints leapfrogged West Ham, who were held to a goalless draw by Crystal Palace in the noon kick-off, as Rickie Lambert's hat-trick secured a 3-0 win at Watford.
"The prize is there for all to see and it's about winning games whatever way you can do it," said Adkins.
"We have finished February and we go into March and April which are two exciting months for the club.
"We've led the race for a long period and lead it again now and I imagine the league table will still fluctuate. But we have to take one game at a time and deal with situations as they arise accordingly."
