Boss scotches striker's Serie A suitors

Mauricio Pochettino has told Inter Milan to forget about trying to lure Saints striker Dani Osvaldo back to Serie A in January.

The Southampton boss reserved special praise for the ex-Roma forward after his overall contribution and stunning goal against Manchester City at St Mary's last weekend.

Inter had been preparing an offer for the Italian national team striker in the January transfer window, according to reports in Italy, but Pochettino has told them not to bother because he is staying at Southampton.

"Osvaldo is a very important player for us," he said.

"I think it's a good thing that he plays in England, so you [England] can study him well ahead of the World Cup and the match against Italy. In any case, he will not leave the club in January."

Osvaldo is on course to go to Brazil 2014 with the Azzurri who face England in their opening group match at Manaus on June 14.
