Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino is scheduled to speak to the media on Thursday but it won't be to unveil the signing of Victor Wanyama.
Saints officials and Wanyama's agent remain in entrenched positions over the move with representative Ivan Modia hoping Celtic accept a rival bid - with Cardiff City lodging the only other offer on the table currently.
Liverpool and Everton have been reported as contenders for the 22-year-old midfielder's signature in Wanyama's home country of Kenya, but they are both said to be waiting on cash coming in from player sales before they can enter the bidding.
Wanyama's dream is to play Premier League football and it appears as though, barring his favourite team Manchester United coming in, he has no real preference as to where.
Celtic want the deal done as soon as possible because they need to strengthen their own squad for another tilt at the Champions League.
Cardiff's bid is understood to be slightly less than Southampton's £12million offer, but the Welsh club have topped the financial package on offer to the player.
