Inter Milan are reportedly now leading a queue of Italian clubs in the race to sign Southampton attacking midfielder Gaston Ramirez.
The 22-year-old Uruguay international, who was Saints' record signing when he joined from Bologna for £12million in August 2012, is looking to leave St Mary's having slipped down the pecking order under manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Fiorentina and Napoli were thought to be leading the way to try and take Ramirez back to Serie A, with suggestions that talks had already taken place with Saints chairman Nicola Cortese about a deal.
However, Friday's Corriere dello Sport now claims Inter's new Indonesian owners will provide the funding for Ramirez to make the move to the San Siro in the January transfer window.
Pochettino would no doubt be willing to offload the player, who is behind the likes of Adam Lallana, James Ward-Prowse and Jay Rodriguez in his first-team plans this season.
