Jan fires Saints warning

SotonJan Poortvliet has hit out at his Southampton stars for playing as individuals and says they must learn from the Coventry defeat.

Saints had been in good form when picking up two wins and two draws from their last four games but Poortvliet believes the run went to their heads and they did not play as a team during the 4-1 defeat.

"We have to learn from this because we played two good games and then we perform like that," Poortvliet revealed. "Maybe it was over-confidence and we thought that we could do anything with the ball, so we did not fight for it.

"Our over-confidence made us vulnerable. They went out there and tried to show how good they all were rather than win the game. We played as individuals rather than a team and we need to learn to be switched on, concentrating and motivated for a full 90 minutes."
