Alan Pardew is reportedly looking to try and take Southampton captain Adam Lallana to Newcastle in the January transfer window.
The former Saints chief knows all about the 24-year-old midfielder's qualities having managed him for over a year during his time in charge at St Mary's.
And, despite the fact that Lallana only penned a four-year contract at the south-coast outfit last year, it is being claimed that Pardew will try and entice him to St James' Park with an offer in the region of £5million in the New Year window.
Saints boss Nigel Adkins will no doubt do all he can to ensure Lallana stays put as he will play a massive part in the club's bid to ensure their stay in the Premier League is not restricted to just one season following their promotion from the Championship last term.
However, the player, who has scored twice in 15 Premier League matches this season and secured a first call-up to the England squad ahead of the September World Cup qualifier against Ukraine, might be tempted by the move as it would give him a chance to play in the Europa League and possibly boost his international aspirations.
