Mauricio Pochettino has warned France not to delay calling up Morgan Schneiderlin any longer because he could opt to play for England.

The Southampton boss is at a loss as to why France coach Didier Deschamps has so far ignored the claims of the 24-year-old for the national team.

Schneiderlin was last season crowned fans' and players' player of the year and has continued to impress this term, scoring his first goal of the season against Hull City on Saturday.

"It does surprise me because he's a player that does have the same quality as the players that have been called up," Pochettino said of Schneiderlin, one of Southampton's longest-serving players.

"He is a player that has amazing quality and I am 100 per cent sure it will happen.

"He needs to keep on working with the same humility, the same work ethic and it's a matter of time until he will get that call up.

"The only thing I would say to the French Federation is they should be careful because he might be able to play for England."

Schneiderlin, who has been at St Mary's since 2008 and played for France from Under-16 to Under-21 level, is already eligible for Roy Hodgson's side.
