Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has heaped praise on his counterpart Mauricio Pochettino as the two sides prepare to meet on Saturday.

Pochettino took over the reins with the south coast club after the sacking of Nigel Adkins and has made a positive start to his time with the Premier League new boys.

The Latics boss knows of the Argentine's work in Spain where he managed Primera Division finishes of 10th, 11th, eighth and 14th before leaving Espanyol in November with them bottom of the table.

This weekend's meeting will be the third game in charge for the 40-year-old and, after a 0-0 draw with Everton and a 2-1 loss to Manchester United, Martinez knows that his side will be in for a tough afternoon at the DW Stadium.

"He was very impressive at Espanyol. He is well-organised, he has very clear football concepts and he is used to dealing with high-pressure games and with bringing youngsters through," said Martinez.

"What he did at Espanyol was remarkable and with the way Southampton have been playing in the last two games you can see he has a relationship straight away with his team and that they reflect the way he wants to play."
