Southampton say they cancelled clear-the-air talks with Matt Le Tissier after the ex-Saints star made the meeting public knowledge.
The Southampton legend had expected to meet with the club's chairman Nicola Cortese to try and end the recent spat between the two.
Le Tissier has been critical of Cortese in recent weeks, slamming his decision to sack Nigel Adkins as manager and replace him with Mauricio Pochettino.
Le Tissier has also accused Cortese of having an ego problem and looks set to remain in Southampton's bad books after they cancelled Wednesday's meeting due to the Saints forward revealing he was set to talk to Cortese.
"It is now not possible for a meeting to take place in good faith," said a Southampton statement.
"Both parties had agreed that it would be a private meeting with no publicity surrounding it, yet within 24 hours this matter was put in the public domain and further negative comments attributed to Mr Le Tissier have appeared this morning (Wednesday)."
Le Tissier had already put on Twitter: "meeting with our wonderful executive chairman cancelled - surprise surprise".
