Southampton are reportedly interested in signing Colombian midfielder Carlos Sanchez in January.
The 26-year-old is registered with Chilean side Rangers, but is currently on-loan to his former team Valenciennes in France.
The defensive midfielder has been linked with a move to England before, with Bolton reportedly close to agreeing a deal in the summer.
Now it appears Saints boss Nigel Adkins has moved to the front of the queue in the race to sign powerful the midfielder.
Sanchez is valued in the region of £2million and reports in the press suggest that a deal to take him to St Mary's is close.
