Saints in race to land Anderlecht ace

Southampton are among several Premier League clubs interested in signing Anderlecht defender Cheikhou Kouyate this month.

The 24-year-old is hoping to make the move to England in the transfer window and, according to his agent, their is plenty of interest in him.

Saints have enquired about the Senegal international's availability but are down the list of clubs expected to do battle for his signature this month, with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City all apparently keen.

"I have been in talks with representatives from Liverpool and Arsenal," his agent Saffet Balkan told Turkish-football.com.

"Southampton and Manchester City have also been in contact with me over him.

"It's very likely that he will be joining a Premier League club soon."

The centre-back has made 27 appearance for his club this year and has impressed in the Belgian top flight after initially coming on the radar of top European clubs following some good performances for his country at the London 2012 Olympics.
