Southampton are monitoring Sassuolo striker Domenico Berardi, according to the Serie B side.

The youngster has managed to break into the Sassuolo side this season and has impressed in Serie B, with three goals in 10 appearances to date.

The 18-year-old's performances have not gone unnoticed and Sassuolo general director Nereo Bonato claims Southampton and Liverpool have made their interest known, but as yet there has been no firm offer for Berardi.

He told calciomercato.it: "We have received accreditation requests to view our games in recent times from English clubs such as Liverpool and Southampton.

"But it is too early to talk about the market so there has been no contact with any club."

Saints boss Nigel Adkins will face a battle if he does decide to move for Berardi as a number of Europe's top sides have been linked with the striker in recent weeks, while the player's agent claims Juventus, Roma and Manchester City have all sent scouts to watch him in action for Sassuolo.
