Southampton have confirmed the signing of Molde defender Vegard Forren for a fee of £4million

The 24-year-old has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool, Everton and Fulham all believed to have shown an interest in signing him.

He was due to have a trial with Liverpool at the start of this week, but quickly changed his mind when it emerged that Norwegian champions Molde had accepted a bid from Southampton.

Forren instead traveled to St Mary's to discuss terms and has now put pen-to-paper on a permanent deal at the club.

The signing caps an eventful day for the south coast outfit, who sacked manager Nigel Adkins on Friday morning, replacing him with former Argentina international Mauricio Pochettino.
