Saints step up Nice stopper efforts

Southampton have reportedly opened talks with Nice about the possible signing of left-back Timothee Kolodziejczak.

The Saints were initially linked with the 22-year-old France Under-20 international last month when it was believed that 18-year-old starlet Luke Shaw would be making a summer switch to Manchester United.

That deal has not yet materialised but it appears the Saints are preparing for the future loss of the teenager by firming up their interest in Kolodziejczak.

The player, known as Kolo, worked his way through the ranks of French Ligue 1 outfit Lens before eventually move on to Nice in 2012.

He is contracted to French Ligue 1 side until summer 2016 but it is thought the club's president would be willing to sell if the Saints make an offer in the region of £6million.
